Oftentimes when people think of LGBTQ, I think people think of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. However, the Q actually stands for Queer and Questioning. It actually may be a new idea to say LGBTQ, not just LGBT, because the Q is not always included.
While sometimes people will identify as queer for not being completely heterosexual, there’s nothing wrong with identifying as questioning. Figuring out one’s sexuality/gender identity can be a very confusing time, and there’s no pressure to label yourself if you don’t feel ready. I think individuals feel they need to choose a label in order to feel valid, but just like an of the other identities, questioning is totally valid. It may be comforting to you to know that questioning is also part of the acronym. That said, many other identities are not part of the acronym and are still totally valid. And there’s no rush to choose a label, or any necessity to do so.
Just remember: You’re identity is valid, even if you don’t know what it is yet.
